Immersion in Mapuche Huilliche textile craftsmanship in the Puerto Octay area. Walk through the countryside and native forest, identifying plants traditionally used for natural dyes, visit the witral weaving workshop, and finish in the ruka with traditional preparations. A private, hands-on experience.
You walk through the fields where the sheep graze, the first link in a craft passed down from generation to generation.
Before reaching the workshop, you enter the forest. This is where the plants used to dye the wool grow: each species produces a different color, and each color requires its own process. You learn to read the landscape from that perspective.
In the workshop, the witral —the Mapuche Huilliche loom— is actively in use. We observe and take part in the full process: carding, spinning, and weaving. You also discover the needle-felting technique used to shape birds and local wildlife.
The day concludes in the ruka with traditional Mapuche Huilliche preparations.
Behind this experience is a story of deep roots and continuity. Doraliza and the women in her family work every day to keep alive a craft that is at risk of disappearing. They have opened the doors of their home and their worldview to share who they are and what they know.
